Frequently asked questions

Is this health insurance?

No. Foothill Family Medicine is a direct primary care membership — a flat monthly fee for your primary care. It is not insurance and does not pay for hospital, specialist, imaging, or emergency care.

Do I still need a health plan?

Yes — we recommend keeping a health plan, usually a high-deductible plan, for the things membership doesn't cover: hospitalization, surgery, specialists, imaging, and emergencies. Many members pair a lower-cost high-deductible plan with their membership.

Can I use my HSA to pay for membership?

As of 2026, many people can pay direct primary care fees from a Health Savings Account, within IRS limits. We keep a plain-English explainer at howtohsa.com. It's educational, not tax advice — confirm your own situation with your tax advisor.

How much does it cost?

We offer two tiers. Direct Primary Care is $130/month per adult and $50/month per child, capped at $300/month for a family. Concierge — a smaller panel with 24/7 access — starts at $250/month per adult. Both have a one-time $150 registration fee. See the membership page for details.

How do visits work? Can I reach the doctor directly?

Yes. Members get unhurried visits, same-day and next-day appointments when something comes up, and direct access to your physician by message, phone, or text. Many questions get handled without a visit at all.

What about labs, tests, and medications?

Many common labs and medications are available to members at or near wholesale cost, with no markup and no surprise billing. When you need a specialist, imaging, or the hospital, we coordinate the referral.

Do I have to leave my current doctor?

No. Many members join Foothill for their everyday primary care while keeping other providers, and we're glad to coordinate.
